Absolute Value
Lesson
The absolute value of a number is its distance from zero on the number line. Distance is never negative, so absolute value is always or positive.
Write absolute value with vertical bars: means the absolute value of .
The rule
- If the number is positive or zero, .
- If the number is negative, (drop the negative sign).
