A function is a rule that takes an input and produces an output. The notation reads as “f of x.”
For example, if , then to find , you substitute 5 for x and simplify:
The is the function’s name (it could be any letter — , , etc.). The in parentheses is the input variable. When you see , replace every in the rule with that number.
